Artist Statement:

I spend much of my time lost inside of my own head, creating stories and worlds all for myself as a release from the confines of the world I live in. My process often relates to taking a step away from reality and indulging in fantasy, often with characters I have created, and set in worlds not unlike a typical high fantasy story.

I have learned that the best way to elevate fantasy is to give it something to be grounded in. I have grown to appreciate realism in art, particularly in landscapes. I love work that evokes a strong feeling of the sublime; something that feels enormous and vast, but also with the feeling of solitude and loneliness. Romantic images such as those by Caspar David Friedrich. My aim is to recreate that feeling in my own work, as well as make pieces that feel like they are just a singular moment in a much bigger story.

These moments, and the figures in them, allow me a space to play with the concepts of identity and body. To give myself a safe space to ponder and process the different aspects of my lived experience and create places and figures that embody those ideas. In this imagined space, I have created a place that at times, can feel more like home than any physical location I know. So enter; immerse yourself in a world away from home. Try not to get lost.
